Mailchimp integration
Sync your Arketa client list to Mailchimp and trigger email automations based on purchases and activity.
The Mailchimp integration is no longer actively maintained. It still works for studios that already have it connected, but Arketa is not developing new features or fixes for it. If you're setting up email marketing for the first time, choose a platform and workflow that fit your studio and connect them using the options available in that ecosystem.
The Mailchimp integration automatically syncs your Arketa clients to a Mailchimp audience and passes key data — purchases, subscription status, class attendance — that you can use to build targeted campaigns.
Connect Mailchimp
- Go to Settings → Integrations
- Scroll to the Mailchimp section and click Connect to Mailchimp
- Log in to your Mailchimp account and click Allow
- Select your Mailchimp audience from the dropdown
- Click Sync Audience to import existing clients
Any new client added to Arketa after this point is automatically added to the audience (if they've opted into marketing).
What gets synced
Arketa sends the following to Mailchimp for each client:
- First name, last name, email
- Birthday
- Subscriber status (active membership)
- Date they were first added to Mailchimp
- Classes attended
- Videos viewed
Sync existing clients
After connecting, click Sync Clients to push all your existing clients into Mailchimp. This is a one-time import — ongoing syncs happen automatically.
Who gets added
Only clients who have opted in to receive marketing and product updates are added to your Mailchimp audience. Clients added manually to the Arketa dashboard won't appear in Mailchimp until they opt in by booking a class or making a purchase.
Automatic tags
Arketa automatically applies two tags in Mailchimp:
- Platform Subscriber — added when a client purchases an active membership
- Canceled Platform Subscriber — added when a client cancels a membership
These tags appear after the first subscriber purchases or cancels. Add them to Mailchimp manually before launch if you want to build automations immediately.
You can also tag clients by specific pricing option names — useful for triggering targeted email sequences based on what someone purchased.
Build email automations
Use Mailchimp's Classic Automations to send triggered emails based on Arketa activity:
| Automation | Trigger | |---|---| | Welcome email | Client is added to the audience | | Birthday email | Client's birthday (field synced from Arketa) | | Post-purchase series | Client is tagged with a pricing option name | | Win-back email | Client tagged with "Canceled Platform Subscriber" | | Members-only broadcast | Segment by "Platform Subscriber" tag |
To set up a tag-based automation:
- In Mailchimp, go to Automations → Classic Automations
- Choose Email subscribers when they're tagged
- Set the trigger tag (e.g., a specific package name) and delay
- Design your email and set it live
Test the full flow by purchasing a product yourself and confirming you receive the automation.
Mailchimp's free plan supports only one audience. Make sure you're syncing to the correct audience — Arketa can only connect to one at a time.
