Segments
Group clients by behavior, purchases, or tags to target broadcasts and analyze your list.
Segments are dynamic groups of clients who share something in common — they've attended a certain number of classes, have an active membership, haven't booked in 30 days, etc. Unlike static lists, segments update automatically as client data changes.
You can use segments to:
- Target a broadcast to a specific audience
- Filter your client list in the dashboard
- Understand behavior patterns (e.g., who's at risk of churning)
Create a segment
- Go to Clients → Segments
- Click Create new segment
- Name the segment
- Add conditions
Condition types
User data conditions filter on what clients have or are:
| Condition | What it filters |
|---|---|
| Client Attribute | Clients based on specific client account behaviors, such as account creation date, last visit, or email opt-in status |
| Client Custom Field | Clients based on custom fields configured in client settings |
| Tags | Clients with a specific tag on their profile |
| Pricing option | Clients based on their purchase history — active, expired, never purchased, etc. You can filter by specific option name, type (pack, subscription, bundle), or intro offer status |
Event conditions filter on what clients have done:
| Condition | What it filters |
|---|---|
| Booked reservation | Booked at least / exactly / fewer than X times |
| Canceled reservation | Canceled at least / exactly / fewer than X times |
| Attended reservation | Attended at least / exactly / fewer than X times |
| Watched on-demand | Viewed on-demand content at least / exactly / fewer than X times |
Marketing email conditions filter on how clients have engaged with your emails:
| Condition | What it filters |
|---|---|
| Email delivered | Clients who had an email successfully delivered to their inbox |
| Email opened | Clients who opened a marketing email |
| Email clicked | Clients who clicked a link in a marketing email |
| Email bounced | Clients whose email address returned a bounce |
Each event condition supports time filters:
- Over all time — all-time count
- Relative dates — in the last X days, not in the last X days, between X and Y days ago
- Absolute dates — after a specific date, before a specific date, between two dates
Combining conditions: AND vs OR
When you add multiple conditions, choose how they combine:
| Logic | What it means |
|---|---|
| All (AND) | Client must meet every condition — more specific |
| At least one (OR) | Client meets any one condition — broader |
Example: Tags = "Intro Offer Buyer" AND Pricing Option = has never purchased a subscription → clients who bought an intro offer but haven't converted to a membership.
Use segments in broadcasts
When creating an email, SMS, or push broadcast, under Who should receive this, scroll to Custom Segments and select your saved segment.
Built-in segments
Arketa includes predefined segments you can use without creating anything:
| Segment | Who's in it |
|---|---|
| Leads | 0 purchases and 0 reservations |
| Intro offer | Has an active, non-canceled intro offer with credits remaining |
| Bought membership in last 7 days | Purchased a subscription in the past 7 days |
| Active member | Has a paid, active subscription (not trial, not set to cancel) |
| Member | Has any subscription that isn't canceled |
| Retention | Has a subscription expiring within the next 7 days |
These appear in the client list filter and as broadcast audience options.
